NEWS Michiko Ogawa at the IFA Panasonic press conference Segway Raises the Bar for Self-balancing Transporters Product line expansion follows strategic merger with Ninebot Panasonic Unites Digital and Analogue OLED TVs, voice-controlled speakers and a classic turntable on show Segway is continuing to expand its consumer product lines with the launch of two smart, lightweight ‘Ninebot by Segway’ KickScooters, which were launched at the company’s press conference on Thursday. There are two new models: the ES1 and the ES2. Both KickScooters are lightweight and feature a onetouch folding system. Riders also have the option to upgrade either e-scooter with an optional second battery. This allows for travel of up to 45 km, and enables ES2 riders to reach speeds of up to 30 km/h, travel further and take on slightly steeper inclines. Ninebot by Segway KickScooters will be available in Q4 2017. The Segway miniLITE has a maximum speed of 16 km/h, a range of approximately 18km, and is steered with the knee control bar. It features customisable LED lights, while the knee control bar doubles Laurent Abadie, Chairman and CEO of Panasonic Europe, kicked off a packed IFA press conference by riding onto the stage on an electric scooter powered by lithium battery technology pioneered by Panasonic. Noting that a version of Panasonic’s lithium ion battery is also installed in the Tesla Model 3 electric car, Abadie added that the company’s e-mobility technology “is fueling a new generation of green vehicles”. The Japanese giant is also developing carbonfree hydrogen power technology that is already starting to power smart cities that also utilise a range of integrated Panasonic smart-home products that will be on show at IFA. Michiko Ogawa, Vice-President of Panasonic Appliance, was next up to showcase a range of bold new consumer electronic innovations. First up was the GA10 smart speaker featuring Google Assistant voice-assistance technology. Described as a “reimagining of smart speakers,” the high-powered wireless speakers can play the user’s favourite tunes via voice command – it’s also compatible with Spotify, Google Play Music, Dezeer and other streaming services. Meanwhile, Panasonic is targeting high-end, broadcast-quality home cinema with second-generation 4K OLED and HRD10 TVs. Ogawa announced the launch of the EZ1000 OLED, the “biggest and most beautiful TV” in the Panasonic range with 77 and 100-inch models that promise to bring “Hollywood to your home”. Built to handle the latest HDR10 format, the TVs include a studio quality HCX 2 colour processor for professional colour reproduction. Panasonic’s Technics audio arm will relaunch the fabled SP10 turntable, which Ogawa said will prove “what is possible when we combine analogue and digital technology”. The SP-10R turntable features the world’s highest class signal-to-noise ratio and will be on the market from early summer 2018 Hall 5.2 Stand 101 WE WANT TO MAKE TRAVELLING AND PERSONAL MOBILITY AN ENJOYABLE AND UNIQUE EXPERIENCE. “Each KickScooter leverages a smartphone app and delivers other convenient features that meet the riding preferences of today’s savvy consumers in distinct target markets,” said Dennis Hardholt, President, Segway Europe BV. “We’re confident response to our KickScooters will be excellent.” Segway’s press conference at IFA was the launchpad for two additional new products: the Segway miniLITE and the miniPLUS, which form the new mini-series collection along with their current product the miniPRO. The new Segway miniPLUS as a handle to lift the unit. As the most exclusive of the mini-series, the Segway miniPLUS includes special features such as Follow Me mode, which can be enabled through the remote control. The self-balancing miniPLUS can reach up to 20km/h and travel up to 35km. Hardholt said Segway’s vision is to revolutionise the way that people travel. “We want to make travelling and personal mobility an enjoyable and unique experience as well as simply an environmentally friendly way to get from point A to B.
