NEWS Siemens Goes All Digital Bosch Launches New Smart Home Concepts and Ideas Bosch has announced new smart home ideas at IFA, focusing on user orientation. Roland Hagenbucher, Chief Executive at Siemens Home Appliances At Bosch’s IFA Press Conference, Michael Bohn, Bosch’s Director of Marketing, said that a crucial aspect for Bosch is that people always remain the focus: “This is why Bosch’s smart house isn’t set up to showcase individual products or technologies, but rather to demonstrate how connected home appliances can be a sensible way of easing the burden in various situations in everyday life.” Above and beyond the connected world, Bohn explained that Bosch is systematically focusing on user orientation and on providing "the simple way to perfect results", with cutting-edge sensor technology playing a particularly key role in this respect. The main focus of the Bosch stand at IFA is a smart house: a connected house of the future, showcasing what can already be achieved today. Dr Peter Schnaebele, managing director of Robert Bosch Smart Home GmbH, told journalists that starting in early 2017, it will be possible to operate the first Home Connect washing machines, dryers, and dishwashers directly through the Bosch Smart Home app. NEW PRODUCTS New products unveiled at IFA include the Series 8 induction hob combining Bosch’s sensor systems for frying and cooking with its PerfectAir air quality sensor in the integrated extractor module. The new designer hoods also come with an air quality sensor. New Bosch small appliances include the OptiMUM kitchen processor with SensorControlPlus, which stops the machine as soon as cream or yeast dough reach the perfect consistency. Other innovations on the Bosch stand include Series 8 NoFrost refrigerators with VitaFresh pro, a PerfectDry setting in new dishwashers and the automatic dosing system i-DOS now available on Series 6 washing machines. BOSCH LAUNCHES INTO HOME SECURITY Launching into new territory, Bosch has announced the Smart Home 360° Indoor Camera, the Eyes Outdoor Camera, and Twinguard, a premium smoke detector with air quality sensor Hall 3.1 Stand 101 Siemens Home Appliances say they’ve “closed the final gaps” in their digital home appliance range at IFA 2016, with the addition of connected extractor hoods and cooktops. At their IFA press conference, the company stated it was thus paving the way towards the Internet of Things – making home cooking an interactive experience. As part of the concept, key product highlights on the Siemens stand include a side-by-side version of the connected refrigerator with camera, connected dishwashers and avant garde laundry care appliances also featuring energy management functions. Roland Hagenbucher, chief executive at Siemens Home Appliances, said, at the company’s IFA Press Conference, “More than 80% of people want a truly connected lifestyle powered by smart technology – but only 22% achieve it today.” Hagenbucher unveiled the findings of new research undertaken by Siemens Home Appliances and Goldsmiths, University of London, which found that people are striving to live a Seamless Life that offers the flexibility to spontaneously seize the exciting possibilities life brings along. He said, “Far from growing our own vegetables or retiring to the countryside, for most people the desirable life now means a connected life.” The study of 7,000 adults in Germany, France, the UK, Russia and China found that 81% of people dream of a truly integrated lifestyle with intelligent technology at its heart, something Siemens has termed a “Seamless Life”. Dr Chris Brauer, director of innovation in the Institute of Management Studies at Goldsmiths, University of London, said: “The gap between desire and reality is vast – specifically French (91%), German (85%) and Russian (80%) consumers wish for such a lifestyle, with only a low percentage of people, in UK (10%) and Russia (11%) mentioning that they actually managed to achieve what they want Hall 1.1 Stand 101 www.ifa-international.org IFA International • Friday 2 nd September 2016 27
