BREAKING NEWS See You in Shenzhen New consumer electronics show planned for China, by the team behind IFA’s success (see our full report in tomorrow’s edition) Preparations are for a brand new show: Consumer Electronics China (CE China), a new trade event for consumer electronics and appliances in Shenzhen, China. Until this year, IFA gave trade visitors a very broad choice when it came to white goods. But something was missing. The global giant, Whirlpool, was absent. Last year, however, the group’s German-based brand Bauknecht tossed a line in the pond to test the waters, and found that the fish were definitely nibbling. This no doubt prompted the Whirlpool head office to come and join the party this year, complete with all its global brands. Already last year at his opening press conference, Dr Christian Göke, CEO of Messe Berlin hailed the news of Whirlpool getting involved in the show – even in a small way – as a major breakthrough. Now the entire group is here with a huge stand, the circle is complete. Never before in one place has a buyer had the chance to have so much choice across the board in terms of consumer electronics and home appliances… not to mention IT and telecoms that come to complete the scenario. With the holiday season around the corner, this means smiles on the faces of the buying organisations present at the show – a few of which we have spoken to in this edition - each with their own aims and policies… and each adding value in their own unique way to the event. The show was announced yesterday at a media event at IFA Berlin. CE China will be a global IFA event, developed by the Messe Berlin team responsible for the major success of IFA - the world’s largest consumer electronics show in terms of exhibitors, size and visitors. The first CE China is scheduled for April 2016. Work on CE China 2016 thus began yesterday with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by Limin Guo, Director General of Shenzen’s Economy Trade and Information Commission, and Dr Christian Göke, Chief Executive of Messe Berlin, on the sidelines of this year’s IFA trade show. The Memorandum outlines a vision of CE China as China’s premier consumer electronics and home appliances trade show. The event will be an opportunity for brands from both China and around the world to showcase their latest products, helping them to target consumers not just in China but also across Asia, as Chinese retailers increasingly gain a foothold in these markets.
